Eat more of this type of protein to slow down aging

2024-11-08

Research shows that eating more plant protein helps to prolong life, the higher the intake of plant protein, the slower the biological aging, and replacing animal protein with some plant proteins is also associated with delaying aging.

Furthermore, the association between plant proteins and biological aging is mediated in part by serum GGT, ALT, and AST.

For the study, the researchers analyzed 79,294 participants in the UK Biobank database, average age 56 years, 47% male, collected dietary information through questionnaires, and assessed plant protein, animal protein intake, and analyzed the relationship between plant protein and animal protein intake and biological aging.

The results showed that higher plant protein intake was negatively correlated with HKDM-BA, HPA and HAL, and positively correlated with LTL.

Specifically, those with the highest intake of plant protein were associated with 17%, 14%, 10% lower odds of HKDM-BA, HPA, HAL, and 6% higher odds of LTL compared to those with the lowest intake of plant protein.

Coincidentally, in January 2024, Researchers at the U.S. Department of Agriculture's Human Nutrition aging Research Center, Harvard University, published an article in the American Journal of Clinical Nutrition entitled "Dietary protein intake in midlife in relation to healthy aging-results. from the prospective Nurses' Health Study cohort ".

The study showed that the intake of plant-based protein was associated with a longer healthy life, with those who ate more plant-based protein in middle age being 46% more likely to live a long and healthy life in later life than those who ate less, and an increase of 10 grams of plant-based protein per day was associated with a 35% increased chance of living a long and healthy life.
