Roquette, the global leader in plant-based ingredients, has announced a partnership agreement with Us-Based sugar company Bonumose to develop and scale tagose, a healthy natural sweetener.

According to the press release, the collaboration combines Roquette's extensive experience in the production of starches and starch-based sweeteners with Bonumose's cutting-edge enzyme technology, and strengthens Roquette's work in innovative sugar management solutions by leveraging the strengths of both companies to increase Tagose's production capacity at scale.

Anne Hirsch, Head of sugar management at Roquette, said: "We recognise the potential of Bonumose's innovative enzyme technology, which enables the production of high purity tagg sugar. Our expertise in large-scale production of starch sweeteners can significantly improve processing efficiency after enzymatic conversion, and this collaboration is in line with our long-term vision for sustainable production and to meet the growing global demand for sweeteners."

One of the partners is Roquette, a family-owned company based in France, founded in 1933 and a global leader in the modified starch, starch sugar and functional sugar industries, with operations in more than 100 countries. The company is also a pioneer in plant-based protein, and in 2021 Roquette opens the world's largest pea protein plant.
